Empire Airlines
The Empire State's own airline. Founded at Utica in 1974, Empire flew Fokker F28s out of Syracuse across New York and the states around it — and ran the first international codeshare, with Pan Am at JFK — until Piedmont completed the merger in May 1986.
Everything on the board for Empire Airlines
The Empire State's own airline
Empire started at Oneida County Airport in Utica and grew into a Syracuse-hubbed jet operator, flying Fokker F28s across New York, the neighbouring states, Washington D.C., Ottawa and Montreal. Its codeshare with Pan Am at JFK is cited as the first international codeshare of its kind. Piedmont bought the airline in 1985 and completed the merger on 1 May 1986. Our Empire designs draw on the F28 years — the marks crews wore out of Syracuse and Utica.
