Braniff International Airways
The end of the plain plane. From 1928 to 1982, Braniff flew out of Dallas in jets painted lemon yellow, turquoise and orange — Pucci uniforms in the cabin, a 747 called the Great Pumpkin on the Honolulu run — until it stopped flying on May 12, 1982.

The end of the plain plane
In 1965 Braniff's new president hired Mary Wells's agency to remake the airline's image. Alexander Girard painted each jet a single bold color, Emilio Pucci dressed the crews, and the campaign was called the End of the Plain Plane. The 747 that joined in 1970, the hundredth ever built, came in bright orange and was nicknamed the Great Pumpkin. Braniff stopped flying on May 12, 1982. Our Braniff designs draw on the Great Pumpkin — the orange 747 crews flew from Dallas to Honolulu.
